Chess in Gines 6

Gines, in the Aljarafe west of Seville, keeps a busy chess calendar, and much of it sits along the Calle Virgen del Pilar. The club Abgena Gines organises, with the town hall, a night tournament at the municipal sports centre in late June as part of the town’s Noche del Deporte, and it held its first Chess960 tournament at the Bar Parque de los Patos.

A few doors away the Pizzería Trieste has hosted a stage of the Circuito Metropolitano, a rapid open with prizes and a reduced entry for under-eighteens. In winter the Villa de Gines team tournament is played at the Casa del Mayor, and the Escuela Deportiva Gines Juventus holds quarterly tournaments at the Casa Amarilla and a closing tournament at the Casa de la Juventud.
